Lilavati began her life-long journey into the world of natural
health in the mid seventies, while still in her teens. Inspired by nature’s
vast wisdom, and a deep desire to know health through this wisdom, she began
to pursue education in the field of the ancient healing arts. Thus, began
a romance with herbs, oils, massage, Yoga, and Eastern Philosophy.
In 1981, as her Yoga practice ignited, Lilavati became a licensed aesthetician,
beginning her career as a much sought after skin care and body therapist in
spas in Philadelphia and New Jersey. In 1982, She moved to Europe and continued
her education receiving international certification (ITEC) in massage and
body therapy.
Her thirst for knowledge led her to study with Aromatherapists Eve
Taylor and Anne
Roebuck. Taylor, founder of the Institute of Clinical Aromatherapy, is
regarded as the pioneer of modern aromatherapy by skin care therapists worldwide.
Roebuck is a renowned aromatherapy author, teacher and foremost authority
in the field of aromatherapy.
With Taylor and Roebuck’s guidance, Lilavati immersed herself in the
world of Aromatherapy, essential oils, herbs and plants, and began mixing
her own oils. She went on to receive two separate certifications in reflexology
while pursuing her interest in Shiatsu and macrobiotics. In 1988, she received
certification in Chi Kung body therapy under the tutelage of Dr.
Ephraim Lansky.
Branching Out
In 1991, after the birth of her son Trevor, Lilavati branched out on her own
and created Aestheticare, a skin and body therapy center. She was able to
expand her knowledge into the world of independent therapies, awakening and
arousing her inspiration to know health on a holistic level, a level beyond
“skin deep.”
She received certification in Carpal Tunnel Massage and La Stone Therapy,
and began studying the ancient arts of Aikido and Karate. These mind/body
practices aroused a deeper interest in her Yoga practice
In 1997, after a trip into the mountains of Colorado to study Chakra Longevity
teachings with Robin
Murphy, Lilavati’s professional, personal and spiritual life shifted
dramatically. She realized that wellness and vibrancy cannot be fragmented.
To access a deep state of true health, she realized the need to address the
whole being: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
She began making pilgrimages to Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health to widen
her knowledge in chakra therapy, becoming immersed in the ancient Tantric
teachings of Yoga.
When the Student is Ready,
the Teacher will Appear
In 1999, Lilavati had the divine privilege of meeting her precious teacher
and guide,
Parvathi Nanda Nath Saraswati (Kirin Mishra) - a blessed being, a Yogini
of the highest realm, and lineage holder of ancient Tantric practice. Through
Lilavati’s relationship with Parvathi, her awareness was awakened into
a new consciousness. Lilavati was accepted into Parvathi’s Saraswati River
Yoga Teacher Training apprenticeship, graduating March 2000 and soon realized that after twenty
years of work and study in the healing arts, her journey was newly beginning once again.
She then went on to recieve her Chakra Teaching Certification from Kripalu.
In April 2000, Lilavati opened Sivam Yoga. She continues her Tantric Sadhana
Studies with Parvathi, having received her Lilavati initiation in 2005, and
Yogini Breath initiation in spring 2006.
As she delved deeper into the wisdom of Tantra, Lilavati immersed herself
in the teachings of Ayurveda, the Ancient Science of Health and Longevity.
She returned to Kripalu to study with
Hilary
Garavaltis, and to California to study with Melanie
and Robert Sachs. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, she received certification
in Pancha Karma with Dr.
Vasant Lad. In 2006, Lilavati traveled to the Motherland – India
– studying at the International Academy of Ayurved, she received her Ayurvedic Herbology Certification and opened portals with which new knowledge flowed and flowered. Ayurvedic cooking and pancha karma were on the menu daily. She also had the divine privilege of studying with senior BKS Iyengar teachers in the Shiva temple mountains at Kare Ayurveda.
In 2007 she enhanced and deepened her ayurvedic asana training with Mukunda Stiles, who has recently published a book On Ayurvedic Asana. yogatherapycenter
